Sindh Government to Provide 4x4 Double-Cabin Vehicles to Grade 17 Assistant Commissioners
The Sindh government has taken a significant step by approving the purchase of 4x4 double-cabin vehicles for 138 newly appointed Grade 17 assistant commissioners. This decision, costing approximately Rs. 2 billion, aligns with a similar initiative by the Punjab government last year.
Upgrading from Suzuki Cultus to High-End 4x4s
Previously, Grade 17 officers were provided with Suzuki Cultus cars, which were deemed inadequate for field duties and challenging terrains. Now, the government has opted for Toyota Hilux Revo, Isuzu D-Max, and Ford Ranger models—vehicles known for their durability and off-road capability.
Registration Shift for Increased Revenue
A notable aspect of this decision is the reclassification of these vehicles from commercial to private registration. The Sindh cabinet believes this move will contribute to an increase in both provincial and federal tax collection, benefiting the overall economy.
Rationale Behind the Decision
Officials argue that this upgrade will significantly enhance the mobility and efficiency of assistant commissioners, allowing them to perform their duties effectively, especially in remote areas. Experts suggest that while this decision benefits government officers, it also plays a strategic role in boosting tax revenue.
With this development, Sindh follows Punjab in modernizing its government fleet, ensuring that officers are better equipped for their responsibilities. Whether this initiative yields long-term benefits for governance and the economy remains to be seen.
