There is a large opinion among players that Runescape being "a kiddies/starter MMORPG". As mentioned in the first paragraph regular updates and maintenance in the course of time disprove this notion. This makes the game a greater depth and quality than the rumours and many will not even look due to the information they've read or heard about.

A poor marketing strategy. Jagex/Insight Ventures still depend mainly on online advertising and word of mouth.
