Pakistan Petroleum Limited & Polish Oil and Gas Company Uncover New Gas Reserves in Sindh
In a significant breakthrough for Pakistan's energy sector, Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) and Polish Oil and Gas Company (POGC) have successfully discovered natural gas at the Rafat-1 exploratory well in the Kirthar Block, located in District Dadu, Sindh. This discovery underscores the continued efforts to enhance Pakistan’s energy security and reduce reliance on imported fuels.
The Rafat-1 well was drilled to a depth of 2,514 meters, initially encountering tight reservoir conditions. However, after undergoing hydraulic fracturing to improve its productivity, the well now produces gas at a rate of 1.10 million standard cubic feet per day (MMScfd) with a flowing wellhead pressure of approximately 110 psi. While this may be considered a smaller discovery in the grand scheme of energy exploration, it represents a crucial step in utilizing domestic resources to meet the country's growing energy demands.
POGC, as the operator, holds a 70% working interest in the venture, with PPL maintaining a 30% stake. The partnership’s successful gas extraction demonstrates the benefits of international collaboration in Pakistan’s upstream energy sector.
This discovery reinforces the importance of continued investment in exploration activities across Pakistan. With an increasing need for energy and a growing population, tapping into indigenous reserves remains vital for economic stability and industrial growth.
Stay tuned for further updates on the developments in Pakistan’s energy sector as the country continues its efforts towards energy independence.
